This is not medical advice.
Years ago, I was attending a continuing education course, and the speaker’s other passion was nutrition. He discouraged eating tomatoes because they were a “dark shade” vegetable. I’m not even going to look that up. C’mon dude. We shouldn’t eat tomatoes? What about relativity? Tomatoes are certainly better than Skittles.
Although, as I look at that picture above, they really are a devilishly evil red… forbidden fruit?
If we listened to all the people on the internet tell us what’s bad to eat, there would be nothing left to eat. Here’s a list of all the things that are potentially unsafe to eat or drink;
Meat (says vegetarians)
Vegetables (says carnivores)
Carbs
Fat
Salt
Nuts (you might develop an allergy!)
Cholesterol (ranked, good bad and dangerous!)
Sugar ( I agree with this one, in mass quantities, like soft drinks)
Fruit (too much sugar, supposedly)
Vegetable oils (again, ranked)
Not enough water ( I agree)
Too much water (this is possible. People have died from drinking gallons of water in contests)
Soft drinks
Drinks in plastic bottles
Drinks in aluminum
Too much alcohol (agreed)
Not enough alcohol (wine good for heart health? maybe)
GMOs
Dark chocolate is good for you
Too much chocolate is bad for you
Candy in general
You need more protein!
You need less protein, it’s bad for the planet!
Juice (too much sugar)
Dairy
Not enough dairy (for bone density)
Fish (especially tuna/mercury)
Yes! Eat fish! They have omega 3’s and are good for your heart!
No! Don’t eat fish, we are over fishing the planet!
Coffee is good for you
Coffee is bad for you
Caffeine
Nicotine ( some men on podcasts are starting to claim that Nicotine is good for you. Curiously, they are addicted to Nicotine)
Cannabis (who knows)
Take a daily vitamin!
You don’t need a daily vitamin with a balanced diet!
What’s left? Not sure. Maybe the key word is moderation. Moderation in all things; diet, work, exercise, electronics time, etc…
I’m sure I missed some. Please comment any you can think of.
Good article. online dietary partisanism has created an insane wall of contradictory noise.
