Someone on social media said that a man will start writing a blog before they will agree to counseling, which is true, hilarious, and disturbing. It has certainly helped me get some industry rants off my chest. I hope it has also informed and entertained you as well.
I’m not sure where I’m going with this newsletter. Originally I had many stories to tell and opinions to give. After 170 articles, I am starting to lose steam.
I have dispensed with all the rants about the medical industry, and offered some alternative opinions to therapy protocols that are deemed sacred.
I think I am mostly done with rehab opinions. The overwhelming theme is prevention, some strengthening, and full range of motion, depending on the case. I have over 600 drafts with other titles, but they are just nifty or sarcastic ways of saying the same things over and over. I’m tired of sounding like I’m lecturing people on health and fitness.
Although, this is probably my favorite;
Originally the plan was for some articles to go viral, and I might be able to make a living doing this. But I’ve realized that self promotion on social media is my least favorite activity.
I am most happy with my family, seeing patients in person (most of the time), and my hobbies. At the top is a picture of one new hobby that is taking more time.
The other is playing guitar live. Neither will make money, but that’s ok.
I had a book publisher reach out, but I don’t think that’s as flattering as it sounds. Publishing takes quite a bit of time and money. I work full time seeing patients, the kid’s sport seasons start again soon, and the new dog needs to be walked frequently.
I am leaving the site up, especially since I still refer patients to it in person. Please share any articles you enjoyed. They are free.
I don’t want to say this is the end, because sometimes I get the urge to rant again. So there might be more coming.
Most of all, thank you for reading and subscribing. I am very appreciative.
Just keep going with what you love. When you get a rant or good idea, put it out there!
Nice live performance. I recognise Holiday by Madonna.
I already feel the same way. There are limitations about writing on fitness and health. You end up repeating stuff or just creating clickbait. And I see it everywhere. Then in some ways Substack is the worst place of all to do it, because everything is tipped towards getting ahead.
I wasn't happy with Substack from day 1 and the whole marketing emphasis. I just wanted somewhere to put articles, and I never used Substack before and thought I would try it.
I'm not sure I'm gonna be around much either. It was an effort writing anything in January. And writing properly takes more time. It looks like Jason has opted out since the new year. He was here like 2 -3 months or something. Even last year I kept thinking this is a waste of my time.
But I also know when people say they have had enough, they often come back anyway ;)
Whatever you do Mike I wish you all the best. I think you've had the best blog on these topics that I've seen on here. I've learned some things reading it.
